Why Study This Topic?

My animal is from the South American Rainforest. It's the Blue and Gold macaw. I want to learn about my animal.  This is what I want to know. I'd like to know how it got endangered, where it lives, what it looks like, what it eats, and how long it lives.
I'd also want to know the reason this bird gets ill, how many babies it has. My interest in this animal is  that I could help it survive by keeping it safe, even knowing they are endangered.

What Was Already Known

What I know about my animal is they make their nest in tree holes and rock holes to hide themselves from their enemies. They live in the South American Rainforest. The Blue and Gold macaw's predators are people, boa constrictors and other snakes. The Blue and Gold macaw is about 30 inches and the highest weight is about 10 pounds, and it eats fruit, seeds, nuts and plants.
The reason they are endangered is because they are caught and are being trained and they are not familiar with not being in their environment, so they die.

Search for Information

I searched my animal inside the encyclopedia and on the computer in these places:
www.search. com, Yahoolagins, and www.South America.com. I went to the public library, and the school library have looked. I have looked in other books that I have at home. This is what I found about my animal. My animal eats nuts, plants, seeds, and fruit.
It drinks river water, makes homes in tree holes. That's about it.

Description of Plant or Animal

The size of my animal is 30 inches long, and it's very colorful. It's colors can be red, green, blue, and gold. That is why it's called the Blue and Gold macaw.
This animal weighs about 10 pounds.  Its maximum weight is about 20 pounds.  It's bird shape. It has sharp claws so it can balance on tree branches.

Habitat

My animal eats lots of things. It eats nuts, plants, seeds, and fruit.  It only drinks river water because it lives in the South American Rainforest. It builds nests in tree holes or rock holes for homes to hide itself from predators. They need lots of room for their family to live because they are very big birds about 30 in long.

Adaptations

My animal is the Blue and Gold macaw and it has some enemies (predators).  They are mainly people and snakes, because snakes eat them and people take them away from their habitat and it is habitat and it's hard for them to live. They don't have any prey, because they only eat other things like plants, seeds, fruit, and nuts.

Reasons for Endangered

It is endangered because people take them away from their habitat and they die. Snakes eat them and people knock down trees and pollute their habitat and their water. My animal is trying to work itself out of being endangered.  If they have 10 babies each month they would not be endangered any more.

Restoration

I would help by picking up all the trash in the water and not let the bird huters come in or the people who cut down trees or they will go to jail or prison. I would take most of the snakes out of the forest and put them in zoos. They have a reason to live and I would do anything to make it happen.

What Was Learned

The Blue and Gold macaw is not all blue and gold -- it can be different colors too. Its forehead can be dark blue. Its back and feathered tail are also blue. It has a big beak so that it can eat nuts, seeds, plants, and fruits.
It can get 34 inches long.  Its size counts on how old it is for the size. It makes its nest in high places in tree holes they have their children in their nest yhy can have up to 10 eggs at a time. Sometimes when the babies are older they move away into the Rainforest and only one will stay at the nest they were born in.

Conclusions From Research

I thought it was a parrot but it really isn't.  Its only related to the parrot. Their are a lot of macaws simalar to the Blue and Gold macaw.  All macaws are loud, their is only a couple things dirrerent about them they are their sizes is different and the color is different. Wile I was doing my reaserch I found out a lot about the macaw.
