Why Study This Topic?

I want to find more information about eagles the different kinds, and how many there are.   I also want to find what they eat, what eats them and their special features.  I also want to know if it is has few babies or lots.  I'm Interested in this animal because I like how the eagle is our nations symbol.  I think its good that people are taking care of eagles and letting them back in the wild when there ready.

What Was Already Known

Before the search I already knew why Bald eagles were endangered.  The Bald eagle is endangered because  lead poisoning The there's poison in the rivers is that ddt did it.  The reason the lead and pesticide hurts them is  it kills the fish they eat.  Another thing I already knew  was the habitat.  The reason the Bald eagle needs to stay by rivers is clean water and for the fish.  In some states they're banning the use of  ddt.

Search for Information

One place that I searched for  my animal was the Internet.  One of the Web sites I looked at was  www.marcoisland.org\bioeagl.html.  It gave me information the Bald eagles size, and how much it weighs.  It also gave me information on its eggs,  its length,  its habitat and how it became endangered.  The Bald eagle has a wing span of six and one half to seven feet.  The female is bigger than the male, and it weighs about fourteen pounds and has a wingspan of eight feet.  This Bald eagle has pale eyes, a powerful yellow beak and strong black talons.

Description of Animal

The Bald eagles average size is three feet from head to tail.  The Bald eagle isn't bald, but it has white feathers on its head and its tail.  Most of it is brown, except the white spots. The Bald eagle has a wing span of six and one half feet, the female's wing span is seven feet.  The Bald eagle only gets white feathers when it is four to five months old.

Habitat Requirements

The Bald eagle eats mostly anything it can catch, but prefers fish.  The Bald eagle needs a place that's next to a river in a high tree or on a cliff.  The Bald eagle needs a lot of space or it will not thrive.  The Bald eagle is a magnificent flier.  Habitat requirements are minimal, however, constant human intervention, including pollution, habitat destruction and contamination of their food source are many reasons the Bald eagle is endangered.

Adaptations

The Bald eagle has almost no predators, except man.  The Bald eagle learns to fly at three months old.  The eggs hatch after 35 days.  The Bald eagle almost blends in with the nest because its' colors are brown with a little bit of white on it.  The Bald eagle is an awesome flier,  I think it's one of the best.  The Bald eagle is also a very good fisher.  It can catch everything it goes after.  The Bald eagle has adapted to living in high places and it is a beautiful bird.

Reasons for Endangerment

The Bald eagle is endangered because the loss of habitat. The Bald eagle needs lots of room. There use to be a lot of Bald eagles but now because of loss of habitat there aren't. The reason that there losing habitat is people are cutting down trees and building cities,  that's why the bald eagle is endangered.

Restoration Actions

Actions taken against endangerment of the Bald eagle are that they'e banning using DDT. Another action is that they're making places where they take care of the Bald eagle and let it back in the wild. The Bald eagle might be taken off the endangered species list.  In the future,  I think the Bald eagle won't be endangered.

What Was Learned

I learned about the Bald eagles size.  I learned about how many eggs it lays.  I learned how long it takes for an egg to hatch.  I learned the wingspan.  I learned the habitat of the bald eagle.  I also learned reasons for endangerment.

Conclusions From Research

One of the benefits is that I learned about the eagle.  It made me aware of the need to protect the Bald eagle.  This benefits me so I can do another project or an essay.  This means I can do another one and get an A+.
