Social Studies

  1. Discuss why "goods" are packaged (i.e., for preservation protection, and promotion).
  2. Cut out examples of packaged "goods" from magazines.
  3. Make a "package goods" collage for a bulletin board.
Phys Ed
  1. Practice sliding skills (properly ascending and descending the slide).
  2. Drop the "eggs-periment" from the top of the slide.
Art
  1. Make white ovals out of construction paper.
  2. Decorate the oval to resemble Humpty Dumpty.
  3. Give Humpty Dumpty facial features, legs, and arms.
Technology Ed
  1. Create an original packaging design on paper.
  2. Construct a package for Humpty Dumpty (hard-boiled egg) out of simple materials (Styrofoam, paper, tape), so that when Humpty Dumpty is dropped off a slide or ladder the egg does not break.
  3. Test packaging materials.
  4. If the hard-boiled egg cracks, redesign your package.
Mathematics
  1. Use a bar graph to record "eggs-periments".
  2. Plot the name of the egg dropper on the horizontal axis and the highest altitude the egg was dropped from without cracking on the vertical axis.
  3. Explain results from interpreting the graph.
Science
  1. Discuss how space equipment (satellites, telescopes, probes) is protected (cargo-bay packaging).
  2. Perform "eggs-periments" using hard-boiled eggs (i.e., use one independent variable, height) to test the effects of gravity on a falling object.
  3. Share predictions, experiments, results and conclusions with the class.
Music
  1. Sing a tune to Humpty Dumpty.
  2. Use movements (clapping, tapping, snapping) to establish the beat.
Language Arts
  1. Experience rhyming elements using the Mother Goose nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty."
  2. Find examples of eggs in oher fictional stories (e.g., Price of Eggs, The Easter Egg).
  3. Write a class nursery rhyme using Mother Goose rhymes as the prototype.
  4. Set the rhyme to music and share it with another class.
Health
  1. Investigate the implications of packaging for health reasons.
  2. Ask: "Has anyone ever gotten sick from food? Why?"
  3. Discuss how the consumer is protected by packaging of products.
