Virginia Wildlife Mapping:
An Environmental Endowment Project
The Virginia Wildlife Mapping
program is sponsored by the Virginia
Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to increase environmental awareness
for all citizens of the Commonwealth. Third, fourth, and fifth graders
at Christiansburg Elementary School (CES) in partnership with the Virginia
Tech Institute for Connecting Science Research to the Classroomare
one of the first groups in the Commonwealth to participate in the program
by exchanging wildlife diversity information between community and state
levels. Learn how to train students anywhere to observe and report species
identification by taking a census of wildlife in their community. Wildlife
Mapping is a unique opportunity that allows students to investigate
their environment while contributing valuable research to the Virginia
Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. WildlifeMapping is a proactive
approach to identifying and protecting local habitats that are critical
to species survival before their existence is threatened.
